Looking forward to my next trip to this location. Came here for the first time and can confidently say I was not disappointed. From the ambiance, service, drinks, and food there was nothing that I would change from my experience. Started with the Crawfish Bread, while delicious personally couldn't get past the texture (personal preference), otherwise it was tasty and would recommend. Also did the Oysters which were flavorful and left me wanting more. As for entree I did the chicken gumbo with white rice, I believe I did the mild version to be safe on the level of spice. Concluded dinner with the Chocolate Praline Cake and Ice Cream and let me just say, what a way to close out the dinner experience. I will be back!

I visited Filé Gumbo Bar twice during my five day visit to NYC during the week of June 17. Both times I was greeted by someone with a giant smile. In my first visit there was such a chill vibe and a nice crowd of people. I loved the atmosphere. I was seated at the bar and the server was pleasant. I had the Louisiana BBQ shrimp. I was not expecting this dish to be swimming in melted butter. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I saw a picture of the dish on the website and I was expecting the same. The flavor was a little bland. I am not sure if I would order the appetizer again. For the main course I had the blackened black drum fish with crawfish étouffée. Now this dish had so much flavor. The fish was prepared very well and the étouffée was delicious and had a great spicy kick. I cannot say enough about this dish. **chefs kiss** On my second visit I ordered take out. Every one who assisted me was super nice. This time I ordered Tinys gumbo and I went all in with the shrimp, crab, chicken, and andouille sausage. Once again, this gumbo was very delicious and seasoned so well. I also had the andouille sausage and shrimp which did not disappoint. Not too spicy and I detected a great smokey flavor. I also had a side of green beans. I am looking forward to visiting again. I hope to be able to try the other dishes. Great job Filé Gumbo Bar!

Grabbed a quick dinner here for Juneteenth. Had a colleague visiting NYC from HQ in DC and we decided to take him out. I was able to get same day reservations 2 hours prior. Our reservation was for 5:15pm, 2 of us arrived at 4:45pm and it was PACKED!! They had a nice little vibe going, music was playing, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Once all our party arrived, we were seated right away. The service was good, not exceptional but good. One of the hostess was a bit abrasive but everyone else was good. The food came out pretty fast for them being very busy. Some of the apps actually came before the drinks. Drinks: I had the French 75 with cognac, it was really good! My colleague had it with gin and enjoyed his as well. My other friends had Prosecco and the file southern sour, no complaints. Food: we started with the chargrilled oysters, fried okra, house potato chips. The house potato chips were really good. The oysters were okay, they were lacking a bit of flavor and they were $3.50 each on HH (seems high for HH), we ordered 15 which came to $52.50. The fried okra was underwhelming, I think they were fried too hard. We also had the crawfish bread which was pretty good. For entrees we had the Tiny's gumbo (they have meat and spice level options), po boy sandwich, and the Cajun fried chicken with beans & rice. I personally had the gumbo (all meats combo, spicy) and I really enjoyed it. It was very flavorful and the portion was filling. Everyone else also said they enjoyed their meal. I'm missing pics of most of the items cuz this was sort of a business dinner and I didn't wanna be "that guy!" Lol I'll definitely go back to try some more items.

I treated myself to this spot for a solo date during the middle of the week. I had went around lunch time, so it was very few people in there. The ambiance is sleek and gives just a homey-southern vibes to it. I decided to sit at the bar so I could get a closer look when the gumbo was being prepared. I ordered from a pre fixe menu that allowed me to get an appetizer and entree for around $30. (Lunch menu, I think) Keep in mind this is the style of food from New Orleans so this was something new for my palette. The crawfish bread? Absolutely delicious, I wish I could have it as a snack everyday. The gumbo? Amazing and very flavorful. It has a little kick to it which made it even more enjoyable, bc it wasn't too spicy but yet elevated the heartiness of the gumbo. The portion was pretty big as well, so I left with a belly full. The staff was very kind and super attentive as well. I'd definitely recommend for a date night or just to try something new. I heard that some nights that they do live jazz music as well.

This creole reso had all the elements for the perfect brunch. Space is narrow yet modern and welcoming. Love the live jazz playing in between bites. The service is filled with the hustle of New York but topped with southern charm. I was a happy camper. Now to the food... Louisiana BBQ shrimp - 6/10 Bread Pudding - 8/10 Gumbo - 7/10 Grits - 8/10 we got the all you can drink brunch special and it was worth it. I was most impressed with this one drink (don't remember the name) but it was a play on a coquito. I definitely enjoyed my time and I'll be back.

Loved my experience at Filé Gumbo Bar! Everything from the food to the service was spot on. Make sure you have a reservation and arrive on time -- it tends to get crowded in the early evening. Our server was amazing! I wish I remembered her name but she was an absolute gem! She recommended lots of great items. I ordered the "All In" gumbo which included crab, shrimp, sausage, and chicken. It was tasty but had a very strong pork flavor which I didn't love. The Mac and cheese was also really good. Overall was very happy with my experience here and would go back to try some of their other menu items.

Allow me to preface this review by stating that I have been to New Orleans, as recent as 2022. While there, I ate A LOT of food. I also had gumbo there. A LOT of gumbo. Therefore, I understand what a gumbo has to have, what it is supposed to taste like, and a few other things in between. Putting gumbo in the restaurant sign is like inviting me to a challenge. A challenge to eat their gumbo, so that is what I do. Before I get into the food, it cost me $32 (with tax). That is a bit high for gumbo, but this is also New York City I am talking about here. In New Orleans, you can get it for as low as $16, or as high as $25, it really depends on where you go. The gumbo comes out quick and is a generous portion. You can get it mild, medium, or spicy. I got a medium; but you can handle a medium level spice, it is not overpowering in heat here. I appreciate everything that comes in it. The sausage, the chicken, shrimp (succulent and plentiful), some crawfish, it is all of that and more. There is no "wrong" or "right" way to prepare a gumbo, but as long as it contains bell peppers, celery, and onions, the Holy Trinity of New Orleans cooking, it is a gumbo. The roux is also important because a thicker and darker roux is more flavorful than one that is soupy and more bright red in color. I do wish it came with some French bread. It would really make for a great experience and a tastier meal. Just one piece is all I ask, but a basket is fine with me. Despite some high prices, I would like to come back and try something else. All this talk about gumbo and cajun cuisine is having me thinking about the Big Easy all over again.
